I am having problems with an external DVD writer and wondered if anyone could help. It is attached to my Notebook through a PCMCIA card which has USB 2.0 ports on it.
Everything is fine and the drive is detected with no problems until I put in a blank DVD. This will either freeze my computer instantly or it will freeze whenever I try to run any burning software (e.g. Nero, Roxio).
I have tried using both the drive and the PCMCIA card in a different computer and they work fine, leading me to believe that it is my computer and not the hardware that is causing the problem. I have a HP Pavillion Notebook and am using XP home edition (SP2). The DVD drive is manufactured by Emprex, who I have emailed with my problem but have recieved no reply.
If anyone has any suggestions then I would be pleased to hear them.
