Graphics card while playing games

Hi,
i'm using WinXp pro with pentium 2.4Ghz processor,256Mb RAM and a

Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440 SE AGP graphics card which has a 128 MB RAM of

it's own.
My problem is that when i'm playing games viz.POP-T2T and sniper elite

the PC hangs after 20-30 minutes of playing and also there appears red

and blue pixels on the screen.I checked the min. configuration for both

this games and my PC fits in it.
So please help me rectify this problem.
Also i'm using 78.01 Release Date 09/02/2005, Windows XP/2000 nvidia

driver alongwith Directx 9.0c.

The MX 440 is rather dated these days, red and blue pixels (artifacts) are usually caused by overheating or overclocking, if you are not overclocking then overheating would be my first troubleshooting stop, check your card fan for dust build up and your case for airflow. You may wish to try the latest drivers (81.98 WHQL) from Nvidia.

Unhappy

I have a more severe problem:
It all started when I downloaded ATItool, and started the tests for max memory and GPU speed. The tests were taking forever, and I never actually managed to finish either of them. But during the test, some artefacts started to show up, but ATItool didn't recognize them. Since then, when playing a game for some time, the display just goes berserk. Some weird lines or triangles start flashing from the center of the screen, and when I exit the game, the flashing stops, but my screen is full of artefacts. This particularly happens when I play Jedi academy, and I have noticed that the lightsaber hsa something to do with it, because when I switch to another weapon, the flashing is not so intense. I have a GeCube Radeon GT 9550XT, it has an active cooler, and i have cleaned it from dust, but it doesn't help much.
Oh yeah, when I exit the game, the GPU temperature is about 62°C.
