It is recommended to have the primary master on the end connector, but it work even if it is in the middle.

New hard drive are not usually formatted.....so you would want to format it in order to use it. Creating a partition is along the same line.....let's say, you have Windows XP with native NTFS partition, and you put a new hard drive in you system with FAT 16 partition..........it will work for you, BUT, every FAT partition can be as big as "2 Gig" only......so it is always a good idea to create a new partition on the new drive and then format it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi, Only CABLE SELECT (CS) cables care which connectors, even to the MB connector, you use. With CS cables you must jumper both drives on the cable to CS. The connectors are color coded and position on the cable determines which is C: and which is D: etc. 40 pin 80 wire and some round cables will be CS.
Luck, Jim
