Hard drive frusteration

I just recently bought a new XP home running sp2 pc. In this pc i have an sata hdd. Now I was able to succesfully retrive data off my old maxtor 80gb HDD after purchasing GetBackData. The problem now is that i formatted in hopes of using it as a slave drive, but it's only coming up under windows that the drive contains 30gb. what can i do to fix this. I tried formatting and using a couple different programs to rectify this issue including maxblast4 from maxtor's official website.

Hi, Maxblast should have done a good job for what you want. Did you tell it to set the drive up as one partition or several? Try it again. It should have worked. Remember that Maxblast does not actually test the entire drive, but will unblock any bad sectors along with the format, so a diagnostic should be run on the drive after Maxblast or any bad sectors will be back on the drive. Luck, Jim

Check!
-Auto detect the harddisk and see what is the GB size bios detects.
-Check the jumper of the harddisk, may be there is limit size

Hi Not, Thanks for the Thanks. More guys should try that. Maxblast is a little screwy if you don't use it real often. It's easy to do the wrong thing. Glad you got it going. XP grabs some drive for it's own use. Maybe that's where the rest of your drive is. Partition Magic usually shows that. Jim
