Another Geforce fx 5200 prob

lo all,
ive got a prob with my Leadtek Geforce 4 fx 5200 256mb 128bit graphics card

im sure there is a thread bout this already on the forum, but due 2 my connection i wont b able 2 find it any time soon

my problem is in some games, that require dx9 (i think, im sure wat causes the problem) i get small little pixels in the textures.. eg In Guild Wars on the water surfaces there are loads of tiny pixels everywhere...

this "pixel" problem only occurs on some surfaces not all of them...
Another application where this pixel problem occurs is in 3D Mark 2k5... the pixels can b seen everywhere, and my fps is constantly below 3 due 2 the pixels... i need help !

ive installed the latest nvidia drivers ...81.08 i think and yet the same problem still occurs. Ive been told that dust might have been the problem with the card, so i cleaned it and yet the same problem occurs...

i have no idea wat is causing this pixel problem...

PLS HELP !

Artifacts are usually caused by heat .......... does your card have a temp sensor? do you have any idea what temps it's reaching? What is your ambient air temperature?

You say you cleaned the card, did you take the shroud off the fan/heatsin and clean the heatsink ? Can you describe how you cleaned please?

The latest WHQL driver for GeForce cards is 81.98

i dont actually know my graphics card temp, and i dont have any way of checkin it.

By ambient air temp, u r meanin the temp in my case ? its normally about
36-38*C

as for cleaning it... i removed the heatsink and used a brush and compressed air and cleaned the card.and the heatsink...

OK, you removed the heatsink, I'd start there, presumably you used Arctic Silver 5 or similar thermal compound when you reseated the heatsink, yes?

I'd check that the heatsink is correctly seated on the gpu for starters.

Secondly ambient air temperature is the air temperature.

36 - 38C inside the case, if this is at idle, is going to promote overheating, at those temps it will be hard for your gpu to dissapate heat, have a look at your cabling, tidy it up, and case fan arrangement with a view to increasing airflow

Update :

I added a whole bunch of fans into my case, and cooled the ilde air temp down dramatically...

I personally dont think heat is 2 blame 4 this problem...

these "artifacts" r only found in sum games... ie in Far Cry there aren't ne artifacts and i can play the game 4 like 5 hours straight and no problems occur... in Guild Wars on the other hand.. i get the "artifact" problem when eva i play, whether ive had my PC on 4 the whole day or when i just turned it on...
