Multimedia Audio Controller (Code 28)

I really dont know whats happened. It happened about a week ago, all of a sudden my sound didn't work. It says things like my sound card cant be found and that my drivers aren't installed when only a week ago everything was working perfectly. I haven't downloaded anything to my knowledge that could screw things up but then again im a novice when it comes to computers and I could have done something by accident. At any rate, when I got to add hardware and all that stuff theres a yellow question mark next to my multimedia audio controller and when i try to fix it or whatever it says that the drivers for it aren't installed and I don't know where to go to install it nor do I know where to go if they can't be installed. So...what do I do?

best thing, get belars app and check what your audio is, then just download and reinstall the drivers. code 28 means missing or disabled drivers.

no sound

hi all, i have this problem as well (code 28). i let my computer install driver and when i reboot it hangs up with an hour glass. i went to hp to do the same thing and that doesnt work. i tried it through what i thought was realtek and that wants to download for vista. what i dont understand is there is no yellow dot w/exclamation point next to "realtek ac97 audio" but below that there is one next to an "unknown device". this is my scan from belarc.
its an hp pavillion a430n desktop.
thanks

go download the latest driver but don't install it yet...

First go into your device manager and just uninstall your audio driver and then reboot. Windows will install the default driver with default settings. If this doesn't fix it then use the driver you downloaded.

If this doesn't fix it then you have a piece of software or another driver interfering with it or the firmware on you sound card is out of wak. Try and updat the firmware for your soundcard and that should put it back in place.

Good Luck
