HP a1020n DVD-RW 640b can't burn

Hello

I have a Pavallion a1020n
just formatted the hard drive and installed Nero burning software as well
have inCD installed as well (had record now before but came with computer)

CD and DVD-RW drives are showing in device manager and windows explorer
but when I put a DVD or CD in the DVD-RW drive it changes to say CD drive
I cannot burn anything to the DVD or CD
I can copy the files to drive via send to DVD-RW drive (while no DVD in drive)...and to CD drive when DVD in drive
...but when I try to burn files it says the disc is full or no R-W disc in the drive

i can't erase a RW disc either
enable CD recording on this drive is enabled

It's shows in device manager as HP dvd writer 640b

THANKS... but... I downloaded the firmware upgrade...but alas..it needs to be burned to CD
and I can't do that
I tried to burn it to CD on another computer but it says this computer does not need to be updated
go figure

any other suggestions greatly appreciated
