I have a similar problem with not getting sound form my onboard Realtek sound card. It plays ok through the headphones but I get no sound through the speakers, which are Boston Digital BA735. Could the problem be that it doesn't output to digital? I've tried all the troubleshooting. Thanks Monica

Okay I was just told what to do and it worked for me. I went to Intel.com and entered in my motherboard number and boom, downloaded the audio and all was well!

Let's not forget the OP has stated that he/she is using Windows ME, not Windows XP (see foot of original post above). Windows ME can be a real pain with on-board sound, even with the correct driver. When I was running Windows ME, like "xcrunner503" I also solved the problem with a separate soundcard and disabling the on-board sound-chip in the BIOS setup.
