Hope it helps

I had the same problem but then I installed some drivers from Acer and the problem solved. You probably should check this and this.

edit. I was answering to the first post but I didn't notice that there is a lot more pages than just the first one.
Hope this helps someone else then (i assume that that the first problem is already solved).

I have a similar issue and have seen others with the same problem of unrecognised AC'97 after h/w or o/s changes.

I replaced a power supply, had a problem with the USB ports, deleted and reloaded the drivers and then noticed I had no audio. I deleted the realtek drivers assuming they'd be reloaded. They weren't!

I've removed and reloaded a variety of AC'97 drivers in regular and safe mode, disabled & re-enabled AC'97 BIOS etc but all I can load is a 'unimodem half-duplex audio device.

Emachines suggest the on board audio is u/s and since a standalone card in only $20 that's probably what I'll do. I'm just frustrated I can't make it work!

If anyone has the driver, would they email to sh0@hotmail.com . Thanks

Try getting your hands on v5.10.0.3621 which works fine. Also the newer version is not digitally signed by Microsoft but the older one is.

If you need me to send it to you post a reply with sending details and I'll send you the file.

Could someone please send me the v5.10.0.3621 driver?

tell you what guys, ive had the same problem with sound, and you might not beleive this, espechally after a reinstall, no sound, looked for codex etc, spent houres trying to find drivers etc in the past, but do you know what has allways worked for me,every time,a rinstall ontop of xp,not new instal, reinstall.dell, sony viao, ibm etc its always worked,so you have to wait 37 mins for xp to innstall, but its never failed, the sound drivers are allways are allways back,so if you have an xp disk, give it a try.

On-board Realtek AC97 no sound a possible solution

Hi,
I went through all the steps here and still had no sound. Luckily this was a like for like replacement of a Gigabyte GA-7VT600 1394 mobo. I eventually spotted the problem. I found that none of the F_Audio jumpers were shorted and I discovered that this means that the sound is routed to the front case jack and my case doesn't have one. So I shorted out jumpers 1 and 3 in the mini-diagram below (one each side of the single pin) and it worked fine.

Sorry about the rubish diagram.
