I have no idea if anyone is still even looking at this thread, considering it was started back in 2003...but I am having the exact same problem. Would you please send the viaudio.sys file to mike_sanderubc@hotmail.com. Thanks alot.

My problem with the AC97 onboard sound is a bit different. I can get sound from Windows XP Media Player v10 but no sound from my DVD Player software. All I get from this is the buzzing noise.

Hi looking for the driver, I downloaded the current driver from realtek and lost the sound.

Microsoft sent me the link as a fix as the pc kept rebooting but have now they say to speak to realtek (but do you think they could be bothered to reply ).

hi. i seem to be havin the same problem as allot of others on here. i reformatted my computer and now the sound doesnt work. i dont have any cd's or stuff to reinstall drivers. i have tried to download ac97 drivers but still nothing is working.. help my please. thanks.

After resintalling windows XP to fix another problem, my Realtek AC97 would not work (code 10 can not start). Countless installs of new drivers, old drivers, & system restores did not work. Finally I reset the bios to force reallocation of hardware resources (with the bios on the Asrock dual sata AMD card, there was no other way). Bloody annoying task, but it worked. On the next boot, the sound came back.
