external hard drive problem help !!!

Hi, this is my first post. I hope someone can help me.
I recently bought an external hard drive and I formatted it and partitioned it, now when its attached the icon comes and goes, I triedto save some data in it and it seems to have saved some, but it sems to disconnect and reconnect. Is the unit faulty? or is there some other trick I need to knw. I appreciate your time people.

No tricks involved here. make sure sure leads are firmly attached at both ends. If problem persists I would suspect the unit as being faulty.

What is your OS ? How is the hdd connected IE: USB or ? How many other devices connected to same port ?
I do aggre with pip22.

thanks guys,m but I found the answer.
you have to partition the drive and format the external hard drive. damn thing was faulty though, so much for buying on ebay, what a rip off, ebay was not helpful either. warning to anyone buying from ebay- beware!!!

contact the seller and try to work out a replacement, I have been doing bussiness on ebay for 10 years and have only had 2 problems and only once could I not work it out....
