Sound is gone..

Well my sister was on my computer thinking she was smart and uninstalled various programs from the Add/Remove Programs thing, and she uninstalled my sound somehow.... I'v tried alot of things including downloading like 10 sound drivers, but whenever i try to open Volume Control it says "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." of course i tried what it told me to do but i don't really understand it all that much. This happened before but all she did was delete the program not uninstall, all i had to do then was do a device rollback and i was fine Please help.
ps i use windows xp

You need to re-install the sound-driver (a small piece of software) which allows Windows to communicte with your sound-card. Unfortunately not every PC uses the same sound-card, so the sound-driver which works for one PC won't work for every PC.

We need to know the make/model of your motherboard if your system is using a sound-chip built on to the motherboard, or the make and model of your PC if it's a big name like Packard Bell or Dell or Gateway etc.

I suggest you download a copy Belarc Adviser from here:
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
It will generate a list of all your PC hardware.
Post the list to the forum and we'll see if it can help us track down what driver you need from the Computer or Motherboard model details.

scuse my ignorance but can't you do a system restore? I installed programs that didn't like my computer, so I turned the comp back one day and all was fixed.

Your model appears to have a sound card, but no drivers offered by Dell, the drivers should be installed by Win XP check this out

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

Hope this helps
