No sound...driving me crazy...

First...thank you for any help anyone can give me.

A few months ago, I lost sound. Things got crazy and I didn't have time to deal with it. NOW, I am completely obsessed with trying to figure this out.

Had sound issues where no sound is coming from speakers or headphone
jack. Did diagnostic tests and all seemed fine (no X or !). I checked to make sure nothing was muted and volumes are where they are supposed to be.

I removed OEM (Dell Dimension 4550) soundblaster card from slot and inserted another soundcard from a friend to see if it was a soundcard issue or other issue. Sound played, but it wasn't a surround sound card, so it sounded dull. I then went and purchased at Staples the SoundBlaster
Audigy SE card and installed it. NO SOUND. It is installed on my computer, but isn't working so.....something isn't right. WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS? I have a feeling I didn't have to buy a new soundcard...but at this point I don't care.

As I am typing this, I was running a virus scan to see if that might be the issue. I heard a bleep!!! Sound. It was muted. I decided to check a music file and played it. I cranked the sound all the way up and I can barely barely barely hear it play.

Any ideas? I really appreciate any help.

Here's info from Belarc. Not sure if there is any info included that shouldn't be posted. I am a novice. If I need to take something out LET ME KNOW:
