Unhappy Dell Laptop Screen completely black

I took an plane two weeks ago and had to check my duffel bag. Inside the bag was my laptop case and laptop. Once I returned back to school I turned on the laptop and it turns on fine, except the screen is completely black. There are no cracks, scrapes, dents, etc. in the screen or laptop itself. What can I do to fix this, could something have come unplugged?

Was the laptop case a soft case or hard like a briefcase? If soft, I would say it is cactus. Have you seen the way the baggage handlers throuw the bags around.

Get an external monitor and connect it to the 15 pin VGA connector on the laptop. Boot the laptop and turn the monitor on. You will have to find the key that will connect your to the external monitor. On the Function keys you should see a key that has a couple of monitor looking icons. You can cycle through the setting usually by holding the Fn key and then pressing the appropriate Function key. On the Toshiba it is Fn + F5 on my Asus it is Fn + F8.

If you can't find the key, post back with your laptop make and model and I will see if I can find the manual. If you still have the manual, it is study time (and there will be a test on Monday )
