Intel D865GBF MoBo - XP can't see sound device

1
The sound system worked on this computer in the past.

2
The sound no longer works.

3
XP can't see the mobo sound device in device manager.

4
I tried updating the mobo sound driver and chipset driver, just in case XP needs this in order to see the mobo's sound device.

5
I confirmed that the mobo bios has sound system **enabled**. I checked this, and even booted, disabled it, and rebooted and enabled it.

6
Belarc shows on multimedia devices, and does not list a sound device in the mobo section.

7
I'm ready to just disable the Intel mobo sound device, and just install a separate sound card.

8
But -- if you can advise me, I'll appreciate it!

Did you get drivers from here http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

when you installed the Intel Software Installation Utility did you Restart your comp, then install the audio driver.

check this
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Also look at this
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot

Hope this helps

Success

Barbara, thanks much!

It was my own laziness, in that I did not reboot after installing the Intel Installer, then install the driver after that reboot.

I never had to get to checking the services -- although that is a great piece of information for me to file away...
