Sony Vaio laptop screen is blank

Hello! yesterday my laptop screen went blank and I can't get it back. When I boot up my computer, the Vaio logo is there, then the screen is lighter, then as Windows XP loads, it goes black. When an external monitor is plugged in, that works fine. If I start the computer in safe mode, it works fine until Windows loads.

I've done a couple system restores, going back a week, to no avail.

Any ideas? of course I'm out of warranty.

boot it in safe mode and try iehter rolling back the drivers or reinstalling the graphic driver hope this helps
