Unhappy I also need help with sounds

I read this and also have the same exact problem:

I don't seem to have sound on my computer. That is, from the speakers anyway, My computer, the actual PC, makes a beeping noise once in a while when I start up. Anyway, recently, I upgraded my OS to WinXP, everything seems fine except I don't have any sound. When I checked the device manager, under Other Devices, Multimedia Audio Controller had a big yellow question mark in front of it.

I tried to uninstall it in safe mode, and then restart it normally, it didn't work. When I got back on, I tried to reinstall it, but the computer couldn't find the software for the controller.

I have a DELL inspiron 1000
Model #: PP08S

I'm not sure what else you need....or where to find it on my computer! Just let me know what you need to help me.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

there are 2 board versions with different audio, one has Realtek AC'97 and one has Via AC'97

Via AC'97, installation instructions on the site http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...SubCatID =104

Realtek AC'97 http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

These are your drivers from HP http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...&swEnvOID=1098

check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
