The first thing I need to know is (the obvious) are your speakers turned on and connected....Assuming that they are...and that that your sound card isn't fried....Can't you go to the mfgs site and d/l a new driver?
then as you probably know just have windows install it for you via the Update driver program found in start>Control Panel>System>Hardware Tab>Device Manager>Sound,m Video And Game Controllers>Media Control Devices (Just right click on it) Then select update driver...either let windows locate it or type the path to it. That should do it for you...
If you have already done all this, then click on the trouble shooter and follow the prompts.

Multimedia Audio Controller

Unfortunately, I have tried all of the above. I can't even find out what sound card I have from Belarc or going into Device Manager, so I don't know which website to go to to download a driver. I tried Dell's site for the Optiplex model that I have and had no luck there either.

This is the link to your Dell drivers http://support.euro.dell.com/support...os=WW1&osl=EN#

3 listed ADI 198X is onboard ( audio plugs at top of tower near keyboard + mouse sockets)

the other 2 are sound cards, you would need to know which sound card installed

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

Sound drivers not present

HI i hope i can get some help here.I just reinstalled XP pro and everything installed fine except two things. The printer and the sound.I fixed the printer easy enough but the sound problem is giving me stress.

My sound card is a soundblaster live 5.1, In the device manager it says its an Audio Mutimedia Controller and the drivers are not installed.the original drivers on the cd wont install.Creative say this card is now obselete but i dont want to buy a new sound card yet as it was working fine when i had Xp Pro on before. My motherboard looks like it has integrated sound but i dont know how to use that instead.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Check this out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

What model of HP comp do you have

Hope this helps

You can try to install by going to Device Manager, right click the Creative - Update - and when the Harware Wizard launches ( say No not this time to going online for driver) and asks for an installation CD, put your SoundBlaster Cd in the drive, it should install from there

I'm not too sure on this, have a word with these guys http://72.29.80.128/Forum/

they know more about this than I do

Cheers
