how many times a hard disk can be formatted .does any scratches occur on hard disk due to formating many times??

i m having a problem with hard disk drives .when i m trying to open a drive by cliking with mouse its not working.i m right cliking on the drive and then opening.The first option i m getting in the rt clik is autoplay but not open.How to overcome this problem??

Check that the ide cable and the power cable is connected.
Try format it again.
Try downloading the new drivers for the model of hard disk.
