windows cd boot problem

ok... so here's how it goes.. i tryed to install windows xp on a friends machine and here is the problem... i set the boot priority on dvd-rom first and this thing happens after the pc restarts it asks me for that "press any key to boot from cd" thing, i press a key then the screen goes black on top it says that windos is tring to configure ... smtg like that(that what it usualy says) and then the screen goes black again and nothing happens.
The pc has fedora 2(i think) allready installed..
the dvd rom is LG (donno all the specs) (and it works fine tested it on file transfer and stuff)
maybe u guys found this problem and can help me. for me this is the first time i see it and i have no ideea what could be wrong.

You may need to format the hard drive b4 you install XP. can you do this using a boot floppy? If not you could try copying the I386 folder from your xp cdrom to your C drive and installing it from there.
