Inspiron 5000 wont start

I was trying to make a copy of my Hoyle Casino Cd,the DVD-CD/RW had copied the disk to my hard drive. When I removed the disk and put in a blank cd and started the burn process my computer froze. The only thing I could do was to hold the power buttom down until the computer shut down. Now when I try to restart, the three green lights come on the fan starts and the screen kind of flickers. The fan goes off and it just sets with the three green lights on. Each time I turn it on, I can also hear the floppy drive kick in and out.

The laptop has been running fine until now, no problems at all.

I'm using Win XP Pro/SP2, 30gb hdd and 320mb ram.

I could sure use some help as I can't really afford to take this to a shop, and I'm not experienced in repairing a laptop.

TIA
