Check this out first and see if Soundmax is the default audio
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

You can install the driver manually like this
1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Go here to Intel and install the Chipset No:4 INF Update Utility
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

then install audio driver again

Don't forget the Restore Point

Check this out and see if Soundmax is the default driver
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

ok i downloaded that Intel INF and reinstalled an unsigned SoundMax and checked if the soundmax is the default driver and it is. but still no sound.
i mean when i plug in mah headphones i heard a tiny bit of static, and when i scroll i hear the static more too so its not totally dead quiet.

I dont know how to set the restore points. i go to it and see this bar and its on max so im guessing its automaticly set already right?

I'm sure you get this a lot but you are a genius! I have been pulling out my hair since this morning looking for an answer. I came here and started a thread then I decided to browse the forum. While reading this thread I noticed that this resembled my problem so I tried to follow these instructions and it worked! Thank You :-)

Do you plug your speakers into the I/O plate see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQzgQ39ovZY

are they powered speakers or internal

Get Everest copy and paste the Computer/Summary section so I can see what is installed http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

and check this again and see what if Soundmax is your default audio driver

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
