Computer Not Starting

Hi guys

I just put together a computer with parts i found out of the closet.
Here are the specs

Windows XP home
AMD Duron 800mhz
256 ram
ATI AIW
40gb HDD
250W power

the specs do meet the minimum requirement for XP (if you're wondering why im using XP, i am using a harddrive that i pulled from a different computer)

I didn't plug in the floppy or any cd drive because I won't be using them. I took them off the bios.

The computer starts, and gets to this screen (taken from Microsoft):

I tried to run it normally, but it freezes.
I tried Safe Mode, but after loading a few files it freezes.

what can be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You may need to format the drive first if you are using spares from another PC. e.g. the chipset drivers are for a different motherboard and who knows what condition the hard drive OS is in.

I agree with Monty, but then again, if the drive is from another PC your best bet would be to get a HDD diagnostic tool, you can look on the manufacturers website or go to Packardbell.co.uk to find one
