The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the neccesary software

Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Details are:

1. Windows XP Home Edition, SP2

2. Processor = AMD XP 1600+ / Motherboard = Gigabyte 7ZXE / BIOS = American Megatrends 62710 / RAM = 512MB / USB 1.0

3. Since Christmas I cannot load any NEW devices (camera, memory stick, MP3 player, etc) to computer via the USBs. This problem only affects new devices and my old digi camera and printer that were installed before Christmas time are fine and still work okay. So it cannot be the USB hub itself?

All these devices work okay on another computer, as do their cables, so I know its not the devices at fault.

The problem seems to be the drivers are not recognised (or loaded?). For example if I put the USB memory stick into the USB Windows acknowledges that it has found the mass memory storage and asks to load the drivers. It then searches for these drivers which are in the cd-rom drive, but returns with a message that it cannot find any and then the device does not work.

I have even uninstalled the device, disconnected it, restarted the PC and then downloaded the drivers successfully off the cd (so I know the cd-rom drive is okay) and then tried to use the device. Still no joy!

4. Exact error messages
"The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the neccesary software".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Note: I have recently fitted a USB 2.0 PCI card to help sort this problem (thought it was a USB 1.0 compatibility issue), but the card now generates get the same message every time I boot up.

Send a message via MSN to DaveC2003
Get onto the PC manufacturer's website and have a llok at the Support side of it.

Give them a phone and see if they can help.
