Webcam installation problem

I recentry brought a Viewquest M318B webcam from Ebay and tried it on my PC but whenever it is automatically detecting or installing the cam it gives the error, data is invalid, cannot continue, i tried the same cam on 2 windows XP pc`s and it worked on them as I have Windows XP as well but when I try to install on mine during its file installation it gives that error, i tried Windows Update drivers, Windows XP original drivers. drivers from the makers website but still the same error, Is something wrong with my hardware or with windows, how do I fix it

I'm not sure what that could be. I had a similar problem when I was setting up an HP Printer not too long ago. I kept getting a blue screen of death, and no matter how many updates, patches and walk throughs I tried, nothing worked. I finally got a tech at HP that told me to edit some registry values, and the next time I tried, it worked.
Do you keep your WinXP up to date? What kind of motherboard do you have?
