CD Drive not reading disks

Hello just brought a new compaq laptop with vista everything has been working fine. Untill a few days ago when i put a disk into the drive (the disk had worked only days earlier) the green light turned on on the cd drive however nothing opened and when i click on the drive in My Computer it said please put a disk into the drive. Device manager says that nothing is wrong, have tried with many different cds even blank ones but nothing happens please help asap as need data on disk to do school assignment

try to clean your cd drive with disk cleaner
