Hard Disk Problems need help!!!

Hi! I'm new in here and I don't know if this was posted before....
I have an HDD 1000 GB and I use it only at my PC but a few days ago I connect it at another PC and as I see that computer had viruses....so now I have a problem with my HDD

When I go and I click "My computer" than my HDD it open a window and says to me with wich program you want to open me as "Adobe Acrobat" etc,but when I right click at the HDD to click open or explore there are some symbols that I don't understand so I can't open my HDD only if I click Auto Play than I go and click open like a folder I've tried many antiviruses and antispywares but nothing...I have 954 GB data in there so if I lose them I'm gonna die....I use an XP system service pack 2 with 2.8 CPU a DELL....

Is this an external drive you are talking about? If so what brand and model?

It sounds like the file system on the drive is corrupt. There are programs that can repair or just recover data from bad file systems but not too many of them work on external drives.
