When I go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices... it says "No Audio Device"
What happened was I (over a year ago) purchased an external sound card--Philips PSC 805/17 (USB). A few months ago things started to get bazaar. While playing MP3s in Windows Media Player or watching YouTube videos or any other sound, for that matter, the sound would just stop. I would have to unplug the sound card (USB) and plug it back in and then things would be fine for a few minutes, hours, days (always varied) and then all of a sudden it would stop again and I'd have to unplug it again and so on and so forth. Then one day last week the sound stopped... I unplugged the sound card, plugged it back in and the computer when to a blue screen. I ended up having to go in through DOS and uninstall the software for the sound card. Now I was able to boot back up without getting the blue screen. However, now I am unable to reinstall the sound card driver/software. It will not pick this thing up what so ever. So, fine! I'll go back to using the onboard audio for now. However, that's not working either! I have went to the dell site and downloaded the audio drivers and installed them. Nothing. Still NOTHING! Is there anything that I can do? I would love to reformat but there is one thing keeping me from going that route. A friend of mine has a Microsoft Action Pack subscription and when Office 2007 came out and he got his 5 activation keys for it he gave me one--I have Office 2007 Enterprise on my system. I have fallen in love with Office 07!! So now my problem is, I have an office 07 key but no disk. We are still friend and he still has his action pack disks but they are in storage and he won't be able to get to them for MONTHS! I am totally bewildered here. FYI, in the device manager there are NO conflicts, everything seems to be fine. Here is what Belarc says about my system.
