New Video Card Old Monitor

I just bought a new gaming system and I opted out of getting a monitor to save some money (I already have a 19" CRT monitor).

The GeForce 8600 GTS only has DVI connections and my CRT obviously only has a VGA (D-Sub) connection.

I plan on buying a DVI-VGA connector and using my old CRT monitor. Has anyone done this before? I read as long as your monitor is 22" or less and you don't max out the resolution that no significant reduction in performance will be noticable.

I'm a little worried that I may see a performance reduction after having spent all this money on a new computer (can't afford a new monitor) and just want some input if anyone has attempted the same.

The performance of your system will not in the least be affected by the age of your CRT, which will be more than capable of showing all the glorious colour and detail your video card is capable of sending to it.

The only issue you might come across is that your video card is capable of sending signals which your old CRT isn't capable of decoding, in which case you should be aware of what resolutions and refresh rates are within the CRT's capabilities.

Suck it and see. And save your pennies for the dream monitor.
