Hi,

The Fn + F5 hot key combination no longer switches display modes. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Laptop?

I believe your are talking about that key next to the spacebar on most laptops that can be used for hotkeys.
Have you checked the settings in control panel for the keyboard. Make sure all settings are correct there before doing anything drastic.
Whether a laptop or not, a little more info would help!

Have the same problem with my Toshiba M30 Notebook. Can not switch to LCD-Mode (always on LCD/TV)
What can I do? What's the TFNF5.exe for? Is it "innocuous"?
Thanks!

I fought this problem for months. My
-- fn+f5 (wireless radio control)
-- fn+f7 (screen display scheme), and
-- fn+f8 (trackpoint and touch pad controls)
key combinations did not work.

I was also receiving the following error message with
Start -> Control Panel -> Power Options

'An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDL L "C:\WINDOWS\system32\powercfg.cpl",Power Options" '

I have no idea how they are connected but this fixed all of them.

We'll see how it goes... As far as I can see this should not have any dangerous side effects. try this...

Click on Start->Run, Type powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies and hit Ok.

Averatec 1010 xp - same problem

Hi I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my friends computer... her screen was all wide. I remember that happening to me once before and fixed it using Fn+F5. So I pressed it... AND IT MADE MY SCREEN WIDE!!! Now it wont go back... Nor will hers! What frustration...

I looked for tfnf5.exe in command prompt C:\windows\dir/p and can't find the file to remove it.... hmmm, is this what I'm supposed to be trying to do tomp?

I also tried to run powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies but it had no effect.

Please help!!
