Cool will not boot, has blank screen

I have a Compaq Presario R3306US Notebook PC with 1.6GHz Mobile Athlon XP-M processor 3000+. It has 512MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 256MB) at 333MHz and 256K L2 Cache in the microprocessor. Using Windows XP home edition. The computer failed to boot and just had a blank screen. Following the trouble shooting guide at the hp website, the suggestion was to reseat the memory which I did and did not help. The troubleshooting guide also suggested that some computers have another memory module underneath the keyboard which would indicate disassembly procedures. Never having disassembled a laptop I took it to the Geek Squad and told them what I had done and about the memory in the microprocessor. They kept the computer for over two weeks and their diagnosis was a bad motherboard. Having nothing to lose I disassembled the computer myself and found the microprocessor underneath the heat sink. I removed the chip and reseated it. The computer worked perfect after assembly. The problem is that after a week of use it happened again and again I reseated all memory and it started working. My question is what makes it do this? Why does the memory have to be reseated and what is the cause? I would like a fix once and for all.

I would run this program http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
The memory may be faulty. If it is not then post here again.

Reply to Monty007: The computer will not stay working long enough to run a check. After reseating memory and microprocessor it began to freeze up and after shuting down with power switch would have the same problem of not booting up. It appears that reseating the micro chip makes it start working as reseating the memory only will not make it work. Looks like the problem might be with the microprocessor. Has anyone encountered this problem?
