Is my SB possesed????

I have a SB live sound card and it works fine. Except when I play Unreal Tournament. I can play it once, with no problems, but if I close it down then restart it, not having turned the comp off, the sound goes nuts, the intro speech at the beginning goes all fuzzy, like the sound from a blow speaker, this happens with the sound from the rest of the game. I am running XP with all the latest drivers. I have tried using only the standard drivers that install on XP, I have downloaded the drivers from creative, still nothing works. Can anybody help? Can this be solved, or do I have to buy a newer card?????

Have you tried the usual?
Remove the driver from Device Manager and restart and let XP find it (and re-allocate memory) again. It sounds like you have an IRQ or Memory conflict.
And/or, put the SBlive card in another PCI slot.

Give it a shot.

SB Lives and XP normally work VERY well together!

Maybe the base is set too high and your speakers are booming?
Or... You have a microphone plugged in and there is feedback.
Or... Since it works in other games, it's hard to believe the card is bad. Update Unreal Tournament (Patches, etc.)

Did it work well in other Os's?
Or... My head hurts! Time for coffee.

My speakers are fine, bass is set fine, it is not so much a booming noise it is like the noise you get when your speakers have blow, it is raspy and hard to understand. I will prob do a clean install at some point. ok, I may sound stupid here, in fact I know I will sound stupid, but what is an IRQ. I have probably seem them and called them something else or not paid attenion to them. I know, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Have you tried running Norton windoctor???? If that doesn't work try installing more RAM with the optional wet string. If that doesn't work, you may need to buy a new jigsaw.

Have you tried standing on your head and drinking a glass of orange juice, whilst reciting the Guatamalan national anthem????? No, well there is your problem then. It could also be that you haven't turned the power on.

Funny, I thought about that... Then I remembered the Ethiopians and the issues they have with the Guatamalan national anthem. So I changed my start up .wav to "It feels Good" (Note: that it didn't sound garbled at all) and BINGO, I finished the puzzle!

What????? you only have a .wav at start up??? I have wired mine up to flashing neon signs and a small fireworks display. It cost a bit, but it looks good. I also have a hot line to teh pixies at th ebottom of the garden and they tell me I am years ahead of my time with the start up routine. So that makes me happy. Anyway, I have had a little chat with the small furry woodland animals and they recommend that I sell my card and but the Audigy ex. So I am off to cause merry hell with the local yak community until the throw money at me to leave them alone.
