There shouldn't be any problem with having both SATA and IDE hard drive on the same PC.....my son's PC has both types of drive in it and no issues so far(120GB IDE and 320GB SATA)

Cheers

No problem, there are two IDE hard drives and one SATA hard drive in the computer I'm typing this on. It won't be long before IDE drives are legacy hardware, if they aren't already.

When I built this computer nearly a year ago, IDE drives were more numerous and cheaper than SATA drives. No more. At NewEgg, for example there are 38 IDE drives currently on offer, while they offer 69 SATA drives.

I intend soon to put a couple more SATA drives in this computer, and save my last few IDE drives for use in my external enclosure, which I use for backups.
