HELP ME!!! can't load O.S.DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Im having trouble with a computer build. I have a SATA HD on this computer and Im trying to install the OS. Bios are set up to boot from CD first. When it tries to boot I get this error(DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER) All the parts are brand NEW. iM JUST TRYING TO LOAD XP ON ONE HD. i HAVE TWO SATA HD THEY ARE FORMATED AND THEY BOTH GET THE SAME ERROR when I swich them out useing one at a time. I put a known good cd-rom drive in it to see if I got a bad one..no joy. I whent into bios and see if the sata was enable, it was. Also my HD comes up in bios to so i know the MB is detecting it.

The Mb has only one IDE Connector on it but two sata ports.

512mb pci express vid card

i've run into this problem before and the issue might anything obvious. try switching out the sata cables with different ones.

The problem is not the hdd's it is the optical drive and/or the disk you are trying to boot from.

Check the rom drive ide cable is securely plugged in at both ends, if possible try a different cable. (I have had new cables be faulty out of the box so being new is no gaurantee) Is the rom drive set to master via the jumpers?? or cable select?? if it is cable select and you have it on the end plug of the ide cable (as opposed to the centre plug) you will get this error also.

I presume you are using a legal bootable XP disk so I won't go into the detail of a non bootable copied disk.

Yes the rom drive is set to master and i have 2 sata data cables that i have already tried. and the xp disk works fine. I just finished installing it on a different comperter today. I just got done trying to use a known good IDE cable after it being sujested it was bad, but No joy there aswell...

What is the m/board?

The MB is a Biostar NF520-A2 with an AM2 socket. Im using an AMD 6000+ 3ghz dul core. Ive alredy did reserch and found out that the later modles of this MD only supported up to AMD 5200+ dul core. BUT>>>>Ive alredy tryied a 4800+ dul core 2.5 ghz on this MB and got the same error. Ive look in to it further and found that my bois are up to date to support the 6000+ modle cpu the bois are up to date .

One more thing.., after it is verifying the DMI pool durring boot up a text appers that says ( K8 NPT Data Change... Update New Data to DMI! ) It has shown up for both cpus and both HD's this much I know. but it hasnt stop it from going to Booting from the cd-rom.

I have another MB that I order. It's the same Biostar MB. I was going to use it for my own computer. Do you think it would be a good idea to try to go and change out the MB?

I'm not familiar with that board at all, I'd have to read the specs and manual before I could offer anymore advice.

If you can easily try the second m/board I don't see there is anything to lose so I'd give it a try.

Really, until I had read all of the documentation associated with this board I'd only be guessing.

well I just got done switching out the Mb. and just to be safe I only instaled the 2 of the 4 1gb sricks of RAM to see if that had anything to do with it and i also put in a known good video car. I know I'm kind of swing in the dark here thats because Im getting desperate. Bye the way after all that bs the same error came up. WTF!!!! THERES GOT TO BE A SETTING OF SOME SORT THAT IM MISSING...maN i REALLY SHOULD HAVE STAID WITH AN IDE HD THAT WAY I WOULD AT LEAST KNOW WHAT IAM DOING...

I figured it out. sata HD's are a little temperamental. I had the floppy disk enabled in the bios but I didn't have one in the computer. so when I disabled the floppy in the bios <puff> like magic the OS loaded right up. SATA dosent use jumpers like IDE they are supposed to be smart and determine where the OS is to pick a master and a slave drive but if one thing is out of place and there is no OS installed the SATA drive will just flip out and give you the finger. IN short those who plan on using sata have to disable the floppy drive if they whant to load the os without a floppy.
