issues with onboard sound

hey
after recently moving my comp from a lan back home my sound just strangely died. it was working fine right up till i set up my computer again and turned it on. Since then ive tried just about everything ie, ive downloaded latest drivers for my mobo sound, ive flashed my bios, ive uninstalled my onboard sound itself and reinstalled ive tried everything (i think),it APPEARS to play sound but nothing comes outa my headphones. Ive tried another set of headphones, a set of speakers but even then it doesnt register my microphone. Basically i believe the problem is coming from the onboard sound ports themselves as its not detecting a jack being plugged in whenver i insert my headphones or mic.
any help would be highly apprecaited as i dont wanna go out and spend money on a sound card.

Well buying a separate PCI soundcard would certainly be the easiest and quickest way to solve the problem, as it's probably the on-board sound chip that somehow got damaged during the move. And they are not repairable, or at least not economically so since a new basic soundcard is cheaper than the cost of repairing the existing one.

just bought a new soundcard and still nothing. im thinking something as silly as a mute option ? but ive checked all of em. hell even the additional sound options from programs but im still not getting any sound any help on what might be muted?
