ok i clicked it and it sent me to a website to download some software called RegistryWizard. i downloaded it and ran it and it just came up with a bunch of registry results.

i ran the other links "Scan For ATI SMBus Driver Updates" which led me to a different website called driveragent.com and i ran the scan and a red X came up next to ATI SMBUS.

so its def a problem just need a fix for it

Try contacting HP directly from the drivers page. Ask them to give you the direct link to the driver you need.

Alternately go here and click on your exact model number. Maybe you'll find more drivers.

and now my bad drivers has reduced to just 3 lol

the audio driver seems to be the correct one but still comes up as code 10 in device manager. but driver agent reports it as the correct one.

heres a screenshot

i got this program called drivermagic and im just using it and having some success.

i'll report back if it fixed but the ATI SMbus problem needs to be solved. so if you have any other suggestions please help.

grrr this is getting onmy nerves now, im still not getting any audio

ATI SMbus has no driver but its reporting no problems. can i ask what it says when you click on your SMBus in device manager?
reason i ask is becuase there is no yellow quesion mark next to it, its only my audio device thats the problem

theres gotta be a fix becuase it was working before i had to format and reinstall windows.

Sorry for your grief. I'm running a different laptop to yours (HP Pavilion dv6174ea). All my XP drivers were on the HP site. (don't know why all yours aren't). Follow Bookworm's advice and post your results here. Then maybe we'll find the correct driver that you need.

do you think this could be the problem with my audio?

This appears to be the audio driver, but you have to do a force install
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...tem=ob-37058-1

this way use the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Can't see your .jpg (link doesn't work). Now go back here and install your vidoe and sound drivers.
