Creative X-Fi audio controller problem..

Hey everyone.

Sorry if the answer is obvious but im not Pro with computers ^^'

I recently bought a Creative X-Fi soundcard (just the card) from my friend and started having problems installing it.

I put it in the board fine, and when i turned my PC on i installed the drivers that was reccomended i install for this product at the creative website itself. I entered the model number and it told me it was the Xtrememusic card.

so anyway i downloaded/installed the .exe it supplied me, so am i right in thinking thats all the drivers i need?

well i restart PC once again it prompts me with the "new hardware bubble" (the card) and i choose to have my pc search for the drivers itself. so i see it find them, starts doing it but stops at the audio controller and says it cant find it. so i check and i get this:

Wouldnt that driver have been included in the file the creative site gave me? All the others say "this device is working properly" so i guess hey are all fine.

have i missed something? Thanks for your time.

I do have my soundcard plugged in right... its just the yellow exclamation mark over the multimedia audio controller that alot of people seem to have problems with.

And also i have disabled my on-board audio in the BIOS. But still no sound

What I do

I don't claim to be a guru but what I do to install Creative cards is:-
- disable the mobo onboard sound in the BIOS
- get the Creative card model no. its normally on a label on the card, something like SBxxxyyyyy (ignore all the yyyy, only the 3 digits after SB are needed)
- using a backup PC (or the same PC before the soundcard is fitted) D/L the driver from Creative's site,
- fit the soundcard & switch on
- ignore/exit from all New Hardware Found messages
- run the D/L exe driver
- reboot

If I've read you post correctly you let Windoze search for the drivers itself & that never works for me.
