Linksys Wireless G Router Issue

I've been having an issue with upload lag over the past week. I called Cox (net provider) and they indicated the problem is on my end.. and apparently it was. I tried resetting the cable modem and wireless router, which didn't work.. but when I bypassed the wireless router entirely, hooking the laptop up with ethernet, my speeds - upload AND download - jumped significantly.

So I guess what I'm trying to find out now is whether I can fix the router, or if I need to get a new one... I can't really keep the laptop on a cord, and I shouldn't need to since this has only been happening for a week or so.

So for the technical info... no one has been leeching off my connection, I know that could be a problem and I've checked.

As an example.. before bypassing the router I checked my connection properties. I had 5MB bytes sent and 40MB bytes received over a few days time (since the reset). I know DL is higher than UL, but I'd think that's a bit ridiculous. Even now after a couple of hours my sent is at 6MB and received 26MB...

I'm running a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4ghz router, motorolla cable modem. The laptop is a Compaq Presario.. not sure what other info is needed, so I'll let it go at that and respond with whatever is necessary.

Thanks in advance

The Engineer said, "I'll bet the engine is cooked."
The Chemist offered, "I'll bet it's a problem with the gas/air mixture."

The two of them looked over at the Computer Tech, who finally added, "Maybe if we all get out and get back in again... ?"
