Exclamation core voltage of motherboard

What should the core voltage of the motherboard be? Downloaded a hardware monitor and said that mine was 1.85V and was high-lighted indicating that this value is not right! What should the value be, and how can i change it? Cheers

I had similar with my Graphics card - When I played Carmageddon 3 / Rayman it would just reboot during play...

I flashed my BIOS, got the latest drivers and changed the AGP window in the BIOS to lowest settings....

It worked OK after that!!

Hope this helps....

1.85 seems a little excessive to have, usually a core voltage is upped to that or even a bit less when someone is overclocking there CPU.

your motherboard should be around 1.65, what make and model is the motherboard you have ?

if you want to find out details of what is inside your computer download BELARC ADVISOR it is a cool little proggy

you should check your motherboard manuel for the basic core voltage.

Checked my manual, there is no mention of the core voltage value! I have a Soltek SL-75KAV motherboard. Downloaded the program recommended, although not sure if the information given is any help, so for your enjoyment (!!!) i've included it in this post. All the hardware in my comp is running at normal levels and haven't played with anything to make better, althoug i'm quite tempted to overclock as my processor is so cheap to replace now if things cock (or cook) up!

cheers

Hi mate the motherbaord you are using has a top core voltage of 1.85 it starts of from 1.5 upto the 1.85, so why your computer voltage is set on the highest is strange, but as long as you are not getting any adverse effects and the computer is running fine then you will be fine to leave it.

are you getting random reboots of your computer does it crash a lot if not then leave it the way it is.

after seeing what is in your computer i would sugest that you buy a bigger CPU i say this because they are cheap now and you could do better plus you would see a huge difference, you will be better doing an update of your Bios so it can take higher CPUs

here is the link to the website page you need to download the latest Bios revision for your motherboard also you will see all you need to know how to do it and also it tells you to download the tool to do the bios flash with, this latest Bios will let you put a good high end CPU in, the Bios you ahve now if it is old will probably not let you put a higher CPU on the board till you update the Bios.

when you click on the link and go to the page click on downloads on the left, you will get a language think pop up get rid of it you don't need it, then when the next page is up click on motherboard near the top centre of the page, then when the page loads scroll down till you see SL-75KAV/KAV-X, now that page is the page with all you need for your motherboard

http://www.soltek.de/English/home/01.htm

remember if you are going to update your Bios make sure you do it correct if you make a mistake you can destroy the motherboard.

the XP 1700 CPU from www.overclockers.co.uk is a good CPU it is cheap and overclocks well if you are in England that is go there

i noticed you have not got a reg cleaner for your OS

download regscrubxp when you ahve run it click on £REGSCRUBXP FIND PROBLEMS" top left, then after it has run it takes around 30 seconds select all then click on "FIX SELECTED PROBLEMS" you will be ok to do this it will clean your OS up for you.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2048&cat=15

also with you using XP you should upgrade to another 256 sdram so you will have 512 because XP runs much better with more than 256 meg of ram.

all in all if your computer is running fine and you are happy with it well leave it exactly the way it is mate, but with a few $$$ spent on a few upgrades and you could have a faster better computer for not to much money.

well i hope the advice i have give you is ok, ignore everything at the end of the day if the computer is running well

Cheers for that. Thing is that i am getting random reboots and crashes especially when play high spec games that my comp should be able to handle. So the next question, how do i reduce my core voltage, assume that it is easily done?!

Had a look at the link you gave me for the processor, will i need to get a new fan and heatsink if i get the xp1700+? My cpu aready runs at 45C and overheats if i don't keep the case off! Although i assume that the temp will drop once i reduce the core voltage as less energy will be flowing through the chip(?). Also looking at that site, the xp2000+ is only about £5 more than the xp1700+, is it worth getting that instead? What kinda of increase am i looking at with the overclock? have never overclocked before as always worried that will fry the chip!

Regards to the extra ram, is it worth keeping sdram or changing to ddr ram? or will i not really notcie the difference?

The motherboad has a dual bios, so if i cock it up then i can flash back the original one (hopefully!), again i've never played around with that side of the comp as always worried that gonna mess it up and have to buy new hardware!

anyways, cheers for your help. Had problems with the comp for a while and none of my comp friends knew what to do so cheers again!

well seems like you are having continued problems with your computer it would be good to see if lowing your voltage a bit would help, you need to boot into your Bios to lower the core voltage if you ahve not done this before it would be very wise to read up a bit on it, but when you reboot your computer as it is loading up press the Delete key as it is loading that will get you to your bios.

Check your manuel for which key to press most it is delete but some is F8 or escape.

as for DDR memory YES a big YES is much much better than SD RAM but for you to do that you would need a different mobo (motherboard) sadly

to be honest if you are thinking of upgrading your computer which to be honest i think you should if you can because you are being held back greatly by your Memory (SD) and your CPU

have you checked the games websites for patches for your games?? also the new games now like GTA3 need a good CPU a good memory plus a good graphic acrd to get the full benefit of the games mate.

maybe if you could start buying the odd piece you need over time till you ahve another motherboard that takes DDR plus getting another motherboard will be an advantage because your motherboard is holding you back on the size of the CPU you can have unless you Flash the BIos so it can take a better CPU.

the computer you have is great for what you want for every day use but, if you want a good gaming computer and faster access you should think of upgrading mate.

go HERE click on forums and you will have to join but there is some great advice and rooms were people talk and help with overclocking upgrading there own computers plus they ahve a couple of rooms in the forum called

"FOR SALE"
this si were members advertise there computer parts for realy cool prices they are there own second hand but good stuff i buy lots of there i bought my TI 4400 128 meg graphic card my CPU my everything haha, seriously i did a new build of a computer from acse to everything it is great very fast and never cost to much at all.
remeber if you do join up just browse the sale room and take a look at the prices of the motherboards the memory the CPUs the graphic acrds so on you will be amazed at what you would save from buying new

also they have a room called

"WANTED"
this is were you start a thread to ask memebrs have they got such and such and you get responses were memeber swills ay i ahve this for such amount and so on, it is realy good check it out mate.

you ahve to be a member before you can see the sale and wanted rooms in the forums.

but have a good read at al the posts about overclocking you will learn a great deal believe me. you wil also learn how to mess about in your bios.

there is some good 1700 at sale at overclockers on the shop that can overclock past the 2000 CPUs

remember the stuff in the sale rooms in the forums are different than the shop stuff on the front page.

anyway let us know how you get on before you mess about in your Bios check your mobo manuel and read up about it first.

and if you are thinking fo buying parts to upgrade any time in the future iam more than happy to help you out with advice.

god luck
