Can't get 1 Gig PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM to work on my Abit KV8 Max3

I recently purchased a 1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM module for use in my KV8 Max 3 motherboard, but it simply won't have it. When I put the chip in the place of the old 512MB chip the PC won't boot, it just hangs before the memory check.

I have a KV8 Max 3 with AMD Athlon64 3000+, running at 2.1 GHz (slightly overclocked from the standard 2 GHz), using the onboard sound controller, an NVidia 7600 GS 256 MB Graphics Card and two ATA drives (one is 40 Gig, the other 120)...and that's it.

There are two other 512MB memory modules in the PC, but even with them removed, the 1GB module still refuses to work. I have tried it in all slots, in case one of them was faulty but I still come back to the same issue. All I am doing (trying to do!) is replace a 512 MB module with a 1GB module.

I can't even access the BIOS with the new chip in. Without the chip in, I did change the DRAM settings from Auto to SPD, allowing the PC to read the memory at 400 rather than the 333 it was telling me that it was reading it at (flashes up just after the memory check at start up) but that did nothing.

I know the chip works, I tried it in a friend's PC and it leapt into life straight away...just not in mine!

Please help...

Using DDR266/333 you can use all three of the provided DIMM slots but with DDR400 you can only use two of the three slots.
Try it in a slot you didn't try yet. Otherwise, it may not be compatable.
