External drive unrecognized

I have a Samsung external drive that my computer doesn´t recognize, anymore. I shut everything down before a thunderstorm "blew over"; and afterwards when I turned everything back on, this problem resulted. The drive connects by USB and I´ve tried several of the various USB slots....no luck!

Bit of a while ago now but, I assume that the drive works perfectly well when attached to another machine?

In which case the fault lies within your computer, or if not the problem is with the drive. Is there a firmware update available for it?

I am having a similar problem.

I bought a Samsung 750GB drive which I am running externally. I formatted it in NTFS on my vista machine, it is viewable through 'Disk Management' on my XP machine, but uneditable and the drives contents are supposedly empty (i have at least 100GB used).

Any ideas?
