"No Audio/Playback Device"
Is it just me, or are a bunch of people having this problem? Well, I haven't found a solution yet that works--
Okay, recently rebooted my computer, and went through the whole Windows Updates. Thing is, my sound doesn't worn now.
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, rolling it back(No previous files to roll back to), I tried updating, I tried different media devices. Nothing works.
Right now, I'm running on Windows XP. I have no idea what my sound card is (I think Intel..?), but my sound device is Realtek AC'97.
Whenever I go to my Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, it shows 'No Playback Devices' for Sound Playback, and under Volume, It says there is no audio device. Help...?

are you sure it is realtek Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
have you installed the realtek driver http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Tick I accept the above – wait till site resets then click Next
Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install
The site is slow
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
Restore point and follow instructions

check this to see if Realtek is default audio
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
Also this
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

On my Audio Tab, the 'Sound Playback' options have been greyed out-- I can't select anything, because it says there are 'No Playback Devices' in the Default device option.
And my windows Audio Service was already on Automatic, so neither of those worked. Is there anything else I can do?
Everything EXCEPT the Audio/Playback Device has a default, but those are 'greyed out'.

Hey, I was looking through that Administrative Tools part, and while the Windows Audio Service was set to 'Automatic', the Universal Plug and Play Device Host was set on 'Manual'. Should that be on Automatic, too?
Also, I was digging around through some files, and I went to
Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware -> Realtek AC'97-> Driver -> Driver Details
The options of SOUNDMAN.EXE, ALSNDMGR, and a few others did not have the normal small box with a green check beside it. It said it was 'Not digitally signed'....could these be the problems I'm having with the actual sound?

go here to HP and check the BIOS to see if audio [Enabled] make a note of the settings before you change anything, look at Step 7

I've already gone through all of the audio step by steps on more than one 'problem shooting' page for the HP website, and none of those worked as well.
I've also contacted their customer service twice, nothing they tried to do worked.
Dx HP=Horrible customer service.

Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The program runs with no alerts and then closes.
