Cannot Install Hardware via USB point - Windows XP

Hello everyone, I am desparate for an answer to my hardware problem.

I use Windows XP & a few weeks ago I unistalled a few items to free up some space on my computer.

Since that time I cannot install my digital camera for photos, card reader, or even a memory stick via the usb points at the back of my computer. (which usually shows as my 'F drive' on my computer.

Every time I try to install or use the usb point I get the message 'Found new hardware - cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware.
USB Mass Storage (then 3 pronged pic) An error occured during installation of device. The data is invalid. Click finish to close wizard.'

I am desparate to find an answer as my wife needs to use these items for work. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?
Regards

Hi, dont panic we will get to you asap as we live all over this big world. So first thing to do is look at the fist link and follow the instructions to the letter.
http://www.usbman.com/Guides/Cleanup...afe%20Mode.htm

The second link will let you see what is installed but dont use it yet until you get back to us.

Hi

I have the exact same problem. Unfortunately, I can't follow the instructions in the first link because my mouse and keyboard are both USB and my computer does not have any PS/2 ports. Cay anyone advise what I should do?

Many thanks,

John

I was wondering whether anyone can solve this problem which is becoming increasingly frustrating. Basically I am unable to install any new USB devices - all existing devices work perfectly but try to install a new item (such as a USB memory stick) and the message "Found new hardware - cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware" comes up.

I have tried searching for drivers in various Windows directories.

A previous poster suggested deleting and reinstalling the USB ports but this is impossible to do on a computer with no separate keyboard or mouse PS/2 ports. Any help on this would be great.

Many thanks.
