Can you supply a bit more information?

What are your machine specs? How old is it? By cuts out do you mean switches off or resets? What exactly happens? Have you done anything like install new hardware or software which might have caused this? Do you get any errors messages showing up?

It could be related to your hard drive if it's beginning to fail, but without more detailed info it's difficult to tell.

Oops, in case your hard drive is going to fail, make sure you back up or copy any important data before it does.

I think you realise the answer lies right there. Read and write failures, probably.
It's the logical starting point.

Glad you've sorted it out. Heat's a big problem.

Stop all "unnecessary" programs running via task manager before you run your game including your Virus Checker (unless you're connected to the internet that is), that should free up some resources and increase game speed.
