GA-MA78GM-S2H freeze on OS install

Just purchased a GA-MA78GM-S2H rev 1.1 motherboard, and I am having some problems with it. I also have an AMD athlon 64X2 5600 2.9 GHz 1MB l2 cache 65W processor and 2x2gig corsair RAM. While trying to install vista ultimate 64, it will freeze, usually at or right before the gui portion of the install (after loading windows files). By freeze I mean that the mouse cursor + timer are unresponsive, dvd drive stops spinning, etc. I ran memtest 86+ and the RAM appears to be good, i also tried booting with each stick separately and got the same results. The BIOS version is Award 6.00 PG, F5. Any help is appreciated. If you need more specs, I am happy to give them.

I think it might be a bad hard drive some of the sections might be faulty or damaged, your installer disk might be damaged too, or your processor/RAM might not be able to take it (it being something in the installer)...
I'm not sure but i hope that helps, you might wanna go to a professional...

we can rule out the cd, since the same happened with an ubuntu 8.01 disc. got to the gui, instant freeze. it's a brand new well-rated hard drive. also, the install fails before anything is even written to the drive (as far as i know). i am not sure what you mean about processor/ram not able to take it. can you explain that?

i got another of the same kind of motherboard and it has the same problem. it also refuses to boot with 2 sticks of ram working together, they have to be on separate buses. additionally, the HDMI onboard does not work. it will boot another hard drive with windows xp on safe mode, intriguingly. the new board has no problems POSTing. any ideas? i'll test whatever you want. thanks in advance
