Cannot power down computer or boot
Hi, I ran into this problem yesterday and would like some help to find out how to solve it.
The problem started when I shortly pressed the power button while the computer was running normally under Windows XP pro so as to shut it down, as usual. This time, instead of shutting down normally using Windows' procedure, the screen instantly turned black and all other peripherals stopped working, but the computer didn't power down : fans were still running and the power led was lit up. After this, pressing the power button for 10 seconds to force the computer to shut down had no effect. The only way to shut it off was to use the power switch to the back of the computer which cuts access to power.
Whenever I use this switch again to give power back to my computer, it automatically turns back to that same state without me even pressing the front power button : peripherals lit up for a second then stop working, fans are running, the power led is lit up, but there is no system beep, no booting, and no way to restart the computer or shut it down (the reset button has no effect either).
I already tried clearing CMOS by removing the battery for 10+ minutes while the computer was shut down and the motherboard unplugged from the power source, but this had no effect at all.
What I could do to try and repair this ?
