Laptop hangs if I use USB Port

I have Acer 5100-3583 Laptop. It hangs whenever I try to use any of the 3 USB Ports. I first noticed the problem when I wanted to download Photos from Camera.
There is a Card Reader slot, which works fine. But I need to use USB Ports also.
I did System Restore for an appropriate date. It shows System has not undergone any change.
I have been searching for a solution to this problem, no luck so far. Please help!

There are no yellow marks. All devices are shown to be working properly.

Laptop Hangs if I use USB Ports - Expert Help Required!

I really hope some Expert will guide me get ut of this problem!
Here is some update on a few things I tried:

(1) Checked System Log and I found six Error messages - source for all: 'Side byside':

Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Generate Activation Context failed for C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a 1e18e3b_8.0.50727.163_x-ww_39049d00\MFC80U.DLL. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

These three messages then repeated exactly.

(2) Checked BIOS with BIOSAgentPlus of Phoenix Technolgies. The USB Host Controller Drivers are up-to-date. The report says BIOS (Phoenix), Display Adaptors (ATI Radeon), IDA ATA/ATAPI, Modms, network Adaptors, Sound Video Game Controllers (Realtek High Def Audio) and System Devices (SDA Std Compliant SDA Host Controller) are 'Bad'.

(3) Uninstalled the USB Root Hubs one by one and then restarted the Laptop. It reinstalled the USB Root Hubs but then there was a Message Balloon: 'A problem occurred during installatin of New Hardware. Your Hardware may not work properly.'
I repeated uninstalling/restarting a couple of times. On fourth try, the Root Hubs got reinstalled, no error message and I could connect the Wireless Mouse and use it exactly for a few minutes. But the joy was shortlived. The Laptop froze again.
One more positive aspect was, this time, I could switch off the Remote sensor of the Mouse, and the Laptop came to life. On previous occasions, I had to forcibly switch off the Laptop to come out of the hanged condition.

(4) I use Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000.
I uninstalled/reinstalled it but it does not work. In fact now the Mouse seems to be not working. Windows did not recognize it; its LED does not glow.
Problem is not only Mouse; Camera & Printer have the same problem. Laptop freezes,
[When it freezes, I "connect" the Printer through USB and keep on fiddling with the On/Off and somehow, after a few attempts, probably when the Printer is in "Connect" mode, the Laptop gets "unfreezed".

Not sure what operating system we are dealing with XP, Vista or other.
First thing you should do is go to the Acer support site and get all the updates that apply to your machine and operating system. I would do a bios update as a last resort if your not comfortable with the process.
Computers like Acer or any other name brand PC bundle software for CD burning, cameras and a multitude of hardware applications and its likely to be a issue with something they installed conflicting with a Microsoft update, antivirus program or something you installed.
All in all it would be best to check them first to see if they have a fix for a known issue.http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...=2&formid=3394
