Windows Shut Down - Physical Dump

Hello.

Please could someone give me some advice on a regular problem.

My pc has just displayed a blue screen with the following statement :

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".

This is followed by :

"STOP 0x0000000A (0xE04E37BC, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804EB596)".

And then followed by :

"Beginning dump of physical memory".

When the dump has been completed and the pc restarts, the following messge is displayed :

"Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed".

After the desktop screen appears, my hard drive runs for about 7-10 mins at the beginning (red light on front of pc) then stops, with occasional bursts.

Any help would be appreciated.

FYI

My hardware details (pc was built at a local shop in 2004 which has now gone out of business. No Administrator password details known).

(Tried to copy details down using Device Manager listing. Every time I got to the bottom section, the hard drive would "whirl" then the list went back up to the top again, forcing me to have to keep scrolling down to complete the listing)

have you had a go at starting the pc in safe mode,then run virus/spyware scans from there, (the hard drive would "whirl")is the hd noisy,could be on the way out, ("Beginning dump of physical memory".)if the pc will stay on long enough run ccleaner and its reg cleaner to get rid of stuff then restart,
(Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed)make sure the ribon cables are seated/pushed home properly,unplug pc first,have a look at this site,

In answer to your questions :

1. have started the pc in safe mode but did not run virus/spyware scans from there. have run the scans from normal windows startup

2. have ran ccleaner in past (last ran about a week ago) but not since then. errors and shut downs had occured before then and subsequently afterwards

3. will run a memtest program suggested on another site first, then will look at the cables afterwards.

Hello again.

Have tried to run memtest86+ three time now and each time the test is not completed due to the pc shutting down and the audible alarm going off inside the pc.

On two occasions following error reported :
