Need to access files on semi dead HP laptop

I have a HP DV2000 laptop which I believe the graphics card has gone on. It emits three beeps when switched on and the screen doesnt come on but the blue lights for manual control (volume etc) do come on. The wireless button seems to be off as well.

I need to access my hard drive file on this. I bought a Male:Male USB connector thinking I could just plug it into my other laptop but it doesn't allow me to see anything. I tried to set up a newtwork on the working laptop but it didn't work I assume I would need both laptops working for this to work.

Any ideas on how I can get at the files on my laptop easily? I would defintely never buy a HP laptop again after this experience.

Might be a memory problem -check out http://docs.hp.com/en/AB216-90001/ch04s03.html.
If it is memory you could try reseating the DIMM(s)-if there is more than 1 DIMM try them one at a time .................................
