System keeps looking for DVD drivers!?

My XP Pro system keeps insisting it needs device drivers for a new NEC ND-1100A DVD RW that I've just installed. I know that there is no need to install specific drivers (and there are none available) for this type of device as the generic Windows ATAPI drivers should handle it, but I'm unable to convice windows of this fact!

Has anyone got any idea what could be causing this error? I'm guessing a corruption in XP somewhere as it installs fine on a Win 2000 machine.

It is now refusing to reinstall a TDK CD writer that I previously installed and was working fine!

My basic spec is.

Athalon XP 1900
512Mb Ram
VIA KN266 motherboard (latest Hyperion drivers installed)

I have an NEC DVD burner myself. I also had a driver problem. When it asked for I went through install new driver procedure. When you get to the point where it asks where to searc for the driver insert you XP disc in your drive and tell it to searh there. Thats the way I did it and everything works fine now. Hope this helps.
